For the 2002 Gavin Seminar in San Francisco, I interviewed the legendary Willie Nelson, who talked about his career, told a dirty joke, and regaled the music industry crowd with a set of songs both classic and new.

Quincy Jones, whose career truly ranged from bebop to hip-hop, sat for an interview in Marin County in the fall 2001 and told stories about Ray Charles, Sinatra, and even Austin Powers. Afterwards, he seemed pleased.

Famed for his star turn in the Coen Brothers' 'Fargo,' William H. Macy was honored at the Mill Valley Film Festival in 2001 with film clips and an on-stage interview. "Just be on time and learn your lines," he advised.

Gary Owens, the famed radio and TV announcer, was my favorite DJ when I was a kid listening to KEWB in Oakland, Calif. Now, we're close friends. Gary's still on the radio, and when he calls, I still listen to him.
